As the saying goes, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Well in this case, one man’s trash gets you connected to the internet. Volunteers in Afghanistan- both locals and foreigners from the MIT Bits and Atoms lab — have been building out a wireless network made largely from locally scrounged junk. They call it “FabFi” and it’s kicking ass, especially when compared with the World Bank-funded alternative, which has spent seven years and hundreds of millions of dollars and only managed its first international link last summer. Kudos to these volunteers for their efforts in a such a volatile place. We all have a duty to help others, people! This effort should collaborate with the students from MIT who built and sold relatively good laptops for $100! (Take that, APPLE!)

As an LA native, I have deep respect for Chaz Bojorquez.  His West Coast Cholo graffiti is a testament of his northeastern LA, Mexican style, or as we commonly refer to as “cholo shit.”  You can see the influence that his culture and identity has had on his work.  This book is an impressive publication that documents 40 years of a personal artistic trajectory that reveals a deep love and appreciation for the beauty of handwriting.

The book will see an official launch along with a book signing on March 5th, 2010 (6pm-9pm) at RADIO in Milan. The show will be curated by Marco Klefisch and Alberto Scabbia while the book is presented by Carhartt Streetwear.

Baseline Studios Closes.

After weeks of cleaning up, Baseline Studios officially closed its doors . Photographer Alexander Richter made his way to Baseline for the wake/viewing service held by one Justin Smith in honor of the legendary recording studio.
